Summer Ball Fundraising Total Announced
Welcome to the new look Cycle-Smart Foundation website! We love it and hope you do too, and find lots of really useful cycling safety information.
We have been very busy over the last 4 months whilst the website was being built, and now we have chance to tell you what we’ve been up to!
There was so much to do between April and June in preparation for our annual fundraising dinner, this year’s theme being “Summer Solstice Grand Masked Ball”.
Following a last minute change of venue, the ball was held at The Hilton in Reading on Saturday June 23rd.
We had such a full schedule of fun lined up for our amazing supporters that we began the evening at 6:30pm with drinks and canapés, whilst we admired the effort that everyone had gone to with their outfits!
David Harper, from the BBC Antiques Roadshow and esteemed artist was our host, compere and auctioneer for the evening. He did an amazing job entertaining everyone, and keeping the show on the road!
Following dinner, the casino tables were opened and the silent auction was in full swing, with the on-line auction proving to be a hit. The evening was played out by fantastic band
Now, for the serious bit, obviously the aim of the evening was to have fun, but also to raise much needed funds for Cycle-Smart Foundation to be able to continue its work in educating children about the importance of wearing helmets and cycle safety. The tragedy of not wearing a helmet really hit home to us this year following the death of 8-year-old Leo Burton, to which Angie paid tribute in her speech.
We are delighted to announce that through the generosity of all who supported us on the night we reached our target and raised a fantastic £10,000!! We also must thank the businesses and individuals who donated items for the auction, we are extremely grateful. THANK YOU!
